What is your first memory of a phone?
Do you know where all of the minerals used to make your phone come from?
Do you know how much e-waste the UK produces?
On Saturday 25th of April we explored these questions and more at our InstaGramps intergenerational fixing event. Whilst the Fixing Factory repaired broken items brought by members of the public, we discussed e-waste, mineral extraction, played our ‘long awaited phone call’ game and shared stories about how phones have changed over time through a tin can phone! Young Camden residents answered tech related questions, helping members of the older generation.
This week we will continue this project at Haverstock school where students will watch a phone tear down, learn about the Right to Repair movement and discuss circularity and the issues surrounding mineral extraction.
InstaGramps is a lovely intergenerational project tackling pressing environmental issues and combatting social isolation. We would love to host more InstaGramps events; if you are interested in this project please get in touch!
