In summer last year (2025) we co-designed a project to help keep people safe during periods of hot weather. As climate change causes increases in global temperatures, we are experiencing more periods of extreme weather, including more frequent and intense heatwaves. This was certainly experienced during last summer’s 3 heatwaves. Hot weather can be especially dangerous for more vulnerable individuals, including the elderly, rough sleepers, young children, and those with disabilities.

We co-hosted a series of events providing information and fun freebies about staying cool (and safe) The following three slides give more information on how to stay cool. A more detailed leaflet is available to view online or download.

If you would like a free toolkit to help you plan a Stay Cool campaign for summer 26, get in touch.

This summer (2025) in Camden we had three heatwaves. According to the Met Office a Heatwave is declared when:

The daily temperature of a certain location meets or exceeds the heatwave temperature threshold for at least three days. There are four heatwave thresholds in the UK reflecting the differences in climate. The temperature threshold for a heatwave varies by region. For example, areas like Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England, Wales, and southwest England have a threshold of 25°C (77°F), while parts of central and southeastern England have a threshold of 28°C (82.4°F).

We produced a simple video guide on how to stay health and Stay Cool! in summer last year (summer 2025) and you can view that here:

We are increasingly seeing more heatwaves in summer in London and so the need for more cool spaces and the sharing of health information for the most vulnerable in our communities is greater now than ever before.
